The 5th Hazards Out Workshop on 03 June tackled one of the harder challenges in waste management: getting citizens to actually sort household hazardous waste. The session covered a lot of ground: communication strategies from Ireland’s collection events, Austria’s gamified lithium-ion battery take-back pilot, and academic research into the behavioral barriers that prevent HHW separation and what genuinely moves the needle. The workshop also saw the presentation of the Hazards Out Joint Declaration, putting concrete recommendations for European policymakers on the table.
