Household Hazardous Waste After Collection

WORKSHOP 4: Household Hazardous Waste After Collection

11 February 2026 | 11:00 CET

Online Teams Event

  • EVENT DESCRIPTION

A year after the mandatory separate collection of household hazardous waste (HHW) has entered into force across the EU, the Hazards Out project is continuing the conversation around effective collection systems with a crucial next question: what happens after HHW has been collected?

Workshop 4 HHW After Collection will focus on the operational aspects of HHW management exploring how hazardous household waste is safely transported, temporarily stored, treated, and, where possible, recovered. This workshop will examine:

  • The logistics and transportation of HHW, including safety requirements and cross-border movements;
  • Temporary storage at civic amenity sites, transfer stations, and treatment facilities;
  • Treatment and recovery options, including key constraints and opportunities;
  • Principles for good HHW management – practical Dos and Don’ts for operators and local authorities.

Participants will benefit from first-hand insights from international organisations, industry and municipal operators sharing their expertise, challenges, and practical examples from different European countries. You will have the opportunity to join the open discussion about the operational realities around HHW and exchange on transferable practices for good transportation, storage, and treatment.

Join us on 11 February 2026, 11:00 CET for an engaging conversation on how to ensure that HHW is managed safely and efficiently from separate collection and beyond!

Event agenda is available here.
